2012: Hottest Year on Record

One of the biggest and most costly prices we pay for gas is by far, the environmental toll fossil fuels take on our planet. According to Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post, "temperatures in the contiguous United States last year were the hottest in more than a century of record-keeping." While the increase in temperature is partly because of "cyclical weather patterns," researchers are also pointing to data that provides "compelling evidence that human activity — especially the burning of fossil fuels, which produces greenhouse gases — is contributing to changes in the U.S. climate."
